The Women’s Center at Covenant is offering a babysitting class called the Helping Hands Babysitting Program. The program teaches the basics of babysitting to boys and girls ages 10-15. Those interested in participating can choose from two dates over spring break to attend: Tuesday, March 17 or Thursday, March 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Covenant Medical Center, 3421 West Ninth Street, in Waterloo.

Discussion will include what to do in an emergency, appropriate toys and games dependent on child’s age level, tips on preparing healthy snacks, and interactive hands-on activities to use when babysitting or when home alone. Participants will also learn the basics of CPR and the Heimlich maneuver, but they will NOT become certified in CPR.

Participants will receive their own babysitter’s handbook filled with information and ideas, along with a special Helping Hands babysitting bag. All participants should bring a sack lunch, including a drink. Cost is $15 per person. Pre-registration is required by calling 319.272.8288.
