Local Organizations Come Together to Offer Free Colon Cancer Screening

Screening Kits Available March 20-21 at Peoples Community Health Clinic

Area health care organizations, including the Iowa Department of Public Health, Black Hawk County Health Department, IHOPE Free Medical Clinic, Peoples Community Health Clinic, American Cancer Society, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Covenant Clinic Gastroenterologists Dr. Mujica and Dr. Quander, and Allen Hospital, are collaborating to offer free colon cancer screening kits to people ages 50-64 on Wednesday and Thursday, March 20 and 21.

This effort is taking place in March during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. People age 50-64 with limited or no insurance are encouraged to pick up a free screening kit at Peoples Community Health Clinic, 905 Franklin Street in Waterloo during the two-day event, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Kits are provided free of cost through the Iowa Department of Public Health and Covenant Medical Center.

Those with limited or no insurance who meet specific criteria may be eligible for assistance should any issues arise from the test. For more information, call Nancy McHone, Covenant Cancer Treatment Center at (319) 272-2841.
