Variety-The Children's Charity Funds Support Enhanced Care for Babies, Children at Covenant Medical Center

Variety-The Children’s Charity has granted the Covenant Foundation, Inc. $11,600 to purchase several items that will enhance the care of babies and children treated at Covenant Medical Center.
ASCOM Cell Phones for Integrated Neonatal Intensive Care
Integrated Neonatal Intensive Care (INIC) is an innovative, family-centered model of care at Covenant that allows infants requiring Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) attention to stay with their parents in a Family Birth Center labor and delivery suite. Families receive the same level of care as if they were in the actual NICU, but are able to remain together in the comfort of a Family Birth Center room.
When NICU nurses leave an INIC patient’s room, often times, it is difficult to see the monitors in the hallway or at the nurse’s station. GE and ASCOM’s cell phone technology offers NICU nurses a safety enhancement that connects to the vitals and monitor data of INIC babies, making this information available in the palm of their hand.
The cell phone alerts the NICU nurse if an alarm goes off, sharing critical information from the monitors. The phones provide NICU nurses a real-time patient overview and are always available wherever the nurse may be within the hospital.

Toddler Hospital Beds for Pediatric Care
Safe sleep for pediatric patients is a top priority within Covenant’s Pediatrics Department. Until recently, hospital grade toddler beds were not available. Traditional hospital beds can be very high, provide an uncomfortable sleeping environment, and create a fall risk for young patients.
Spirit Select’s hospital-grade toddler bed is just 10-inches from the floor and allows children to feel more secure so they can sleep comfortably. The low height helps children enter and exit bed properly and safely. The beds are even large enough to allow parents to sleep with their child if needed, which can be valuable to a child’s recovery.
Covenant Foundation, Inc. thanks Variety-The Children’s Charity for their continued support of Covenant Medical Center initiatives in order to improve the care and experience of patients.
