LOCAL HEART FRIENDS SUPPORT GROUP HOSTS NOVEMBER MEETING
Pediatric Cardiologist to Focus on EKG Testing The Waterloo Chapter of Heart Friends, a support group for families of children with congenital heart defects, will host a support group meeting on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. The group will meet at Covenant Medical Center in the Outpatient/Women’s Center on the 4th floor in Classroom 10. Guest speaker, Dr. Samir Chandra, a pediatric cardiologist from Covenant Medical Center, will speak to parents about EKG’s. Heart Friends was founded in 2000 and supported through services from the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network to provide support for children and families receiving cardiac care at the University of Iowa. Members are from throughout Iowa and surrounding states. The Waterloo Chapter was formed with the goal of offering more local support to families in the Waterloo area, often diagnosed by Dr. Chandra at Covenant Medical Center, then referred to Iowa City for surgery. Families who join this chapter will continue to enjoy the benefits of Heart Friends – University of Iowa Children’s Hospital with opportunities to connect with families from other areas of the state. The Waterloo Chapter offers bi-monthly support group meetings and features various speakers focused on educating parents about various heart defect topics. There will also be time for parents to connect and support each other. There is no cost to attend the Heart Friends support group meetings.
