Area health care organizations, including the American Cancer Society, Allen Hospital, Black Hawk County Health Department, Peoples Community Health Clinic, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare and Dr. Mujica of Covenant Clinic, are collaborating to offer free colon cancer screening kits to the community on Wednesday and Thursday, March 24 and 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

This effort is taking place during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month (March) and to encourage anyone 50 and over to be screening. Those interested can pick up a free screening kit at Peoples Community Health Clinic at 905 Franklin St. in Waterloo during the two-day event. All kits should be returned to Peoples no later than April 16.

Those with limited or no insurance who meet specific criteria may be eligible for free care, should any issues with the test arise, through a grant received from the state. Those who do not qualify under the grant can utilize their health care insurance should additional testing be necessary.
