Mercy Volunteers Receive Governor's Award

Mercy Hospital is pleased to announce three volunteers as recipients of the ‘Group Length of Service Award’ from Iowa Governor Chet Culver. Mary Lou Rueber, Ron Garceau and Jeannie VanHeuvelen are receiving the award for their service in the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) at Mercy Hospital. The Governor’s Volunteer Awards are given annually to hundreds of volunteers for their commitment, service and time. Award recipient criteria include an individual or group who has:

 

  • demonstrated exceptional commitment to volunteerism by helping with a special project or ongoing activities
  • demonstrated exemplary leadership, creativity, cooperation and hard work in their service to others
  • made an outstanding contribution to state or community through volunteer service

 

SHIIP Program Director, Kris Thompson nominated the group for their service. SHIIP volunteers are trained representatives who provide counseling and assistance to seniors who need health insurance information.

 

The group was honored at a reception at the University of Northern Iowa - Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Thursday, July 22 at 2:00 p.m.
