Testimonials

Comprehensive Rehabilitation ProgramKathy G.

Patient Kathy G. spent two and a half months as an inpatient at Covenant being treated for Spinal Cord Syndrome, and with the support of her family and close friend was released in September. Now she comes to Covenant every day for occupational and physical therapy.

“When I first arrived at Covenant I felt like a bean bag, I couldn’t do anything,” stated Kathy. “The staff here is great, they worked with me helped me loosen my muscles and get them working again. They know how to push you enough to get you moving. I had to learn how to walk again and regain my balance. I had grown very close to the staff and other patients, they make you feel like family. The staff was wonderful to work with, setting up the rehabilitation plan based on what I was having trouble with. They showed me how to overcome some of the challenges I face to do the basic, everyday tasks we all take for granted. I am still making progress, but am happy with how far I have come.”

In his own words … Patient Mike K. talks about his experience with Covenant Rehabilitation Services

"I came in worried about how I was going to do things on my own again. Thankfully, the people here have lots of patience and helped me relearn basic activities like eating, dressing, showering and speaking. I didn’t realize how heavy my arms and legs were until this happened and I have to use so much effort to move them. Within three or four days on in rehab I was able put on socks, pants, shoes. It took about two weeks before I was able to start walking. Going from not being able to do anything to getting dressed by yourself is a huge accomplishment.

The days in rehab were filled with therapy appointments. Right after breakfast physical therapy started, then occupational therapy for my arm and hand, following by speech therapy. I enjoyed Wii bowling as part of my therapy and met many nice people during meal times. The outings to swim at River Hills and going out for lunch once a week provided a nice break and the opportunity to practice the skills we were learning in real situations in the community.

Overall this has been a good experience considering I suffered a stroke. Every person here has been wonderful, from the first person I met, to the nurses in rehab, people cleaning the rooms, all the way to the management- everyone was very kind. The nurses really have a great sense of humor and keep you motivated. Now I come for outpatient therapy three times a week. Any question you have, the people here can answer for you."

From the Family’s perspective…

"If you look around the rehab gym you see it is not an assembly line. Each person is treated as an individual. They really want everyone to get better and be the best they can be. We have attended the stroke support group meetings and they have had lots of good information. Group members share ideas and talk about things that have worked well for them and we have learned a lot. We definitely recommend Covenant rehab to anyone who needs these services. Everyone has been so kind and helpful."
