The da Vinci® Surgical System offers cutting edge surgery capabilities to Covenant Clinic General Surgeons and several staff GYN Surgeons at Covenant Medical Center.
Is robotic surgery right for you? The da Vinci trained surgeons at Covenant can help you decide what is best for you and your lifestyle.
If robotic surgery is recommended, you may encounter several potential benefits. “Patients may have a shorter recovery time, which enables them to return to work quicker. They should also have reduced post-op surgical pain,” said Marcia Dlouhy, RN, BS, Director of Surgical Services.
Other benefits may include:
• Less pain
• Fewer complications
• Less scarring
• Shorter hospital stay
Currently, da Vinci trained general surgeons can perform cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal; including single-site), hernia repair, and Nissen fundoplication (to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease) procedures, while GYN surgeons offer robotic hysterectomy.
According to the vendor, the da Vinci Surgical System offers “Vision, Precision and Control”:
• Vision – The surgeon operates seated comfortably at a console while viewing a high definition, 3D image inside the patient’s body.
• Precision – The surgeon's fingers grasp the master controls below the display with hands and wrists naturally positioned relative to his or her eyes.
• Control – The system seamlessly translates the surgeon's hand, wrist and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of surgical instruments.
