The Heart Healthy Teen Screen is a ‘just for teens’ screening that combines a simple health history and noninvasive screening to look for signs of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This is a serious heart condition that is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes.
At the event, students undergo a quick screening that includes a review of their health history questionnaire, a blood pressure check and an electrocardiogram (ECG). A Covenant Clinic Cardiologist evaluates each student by listening to their heart, and will do another heart test called an echocardiogram (echo) if needed. Results are mailed to the student’s home within one week of the screening to be shared with parents and family physicians.
This screening is available only to students whose high school signs-up to host the program.
