Dylan Huntbach is 2018 Rehabilitant of the Year

Each year, the Covenant Medical Center Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Center honors a Rehabilitant of the Year. This is an individual who has succeeded from being a patient of the rehabilitation program and gone on to help others through a variety of different ways such as volunteering, community service, and providing peer support to current patients.

The 2018 Rehabilitant of the Year is Dylan Huntbach. Dylan was a patient on our rehab unit in 2012
following a spinal cord injury due to a diving accident. Throughout his stay, Dylan always had a positive attitude and enjoyed joking around and giving the staff a hard time. Since leaving our unit, Dylan has served on our rehab patient/family advisory board, to provide information and input to make our unit more welcoming to new patients. He has been a peer visitor to patients with similar injuries - being a positive, uplifting person for others in the community. He has talked with students in the Allen College Occupational Therapy program, and is part of spinal cord injury research at the University of Iowa.

Covenant’s rehabilitation team also chooses an individual, business, or organization to receive a
Community Achievement Award. This award is for someone who has gone the extra mile to help a
patient return to work or school, or for a community agency that provides exceptional service to our
patients and their families.

This year's Community Achievement Award goes to Joe Gleason and the Positive Steps Community
Ramp Program. Joe was very helpful with our patients and their families by building ramps for them to make sure they could return home. His costs were more affordable than other builders, while still being built in a durable and professional way.
