Dr. Elwood will provide high-quality care to individuals who experience chronic pain.Dr. Elwood is excited to be joining the organization and said, "My wife, Kendra, has been a Covenant Clinic pediatrician for one year. We are incredibly thrilled to join this health care team, as Wheaton has a strong reputation for providing high-quality medical care by caring individuals."Dr. Elwood started his journey in medicine after he had already completed a bachelor's degree and master's degree in mechanical engineering at Iowa State. He received his medical degree from the University of Iowa in May 2013 and completed a Residency in Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic last summer. He recently completed a Fellowship in Pain Medicine at the University of Iowa.Dr. Elwood says he plans to work with patients to develop a care plan that avoids dependence on medicine or the need for surgery. "I rarely see an indication for surgical intervention in the management of chronic pain. I will provide patients with a multifaceted approach, not simply relying on medications to 'mask' pain signals," he said. "Managing pain is often difficult, and I appreciate their understanding and patience as we develop an adequate treatment plan."The Elwoods live in Jesup with their two-year-old daughter and they are expecting another child. When he's not being a dad, Dr. Elwood enjoys exercising, spending time with extended family, and streaming movies and television. He also enjoys keeping up with sports. "I was a Cyclone before going across the state to Hawkeye Country for medical school.
