RSVP Volunteers Offering Free Tax Preparation Assistance

RSVP of Black Hawk and Fayette Counties is once again offering free income tax preparation and electronic filing to individuals of all ages with lower to moderate income.

Volunteers are trained in completing basic tax forms, understanding changes and updates, including provisions in the tax code that affect the senior population. 

Tax preparation locations are:
  • Waterloo
    • Kimball Ridge Center, 2101 Kimball Ave: Monday through Thursday starting January 31. Appointments only.
    • The Salvation Army, 207 Logan Ave. entrance: Mondays and Wednesdays starting February 5. Walk-ins only.
  • Cedar Falls
    • Senior Center, 528 Main Street: Monday afternoons, Tuesdays andThursdays starting February 1. Appointments only.
  • Independence
    • Senior Center, 400 5th Avenue NE: Thursdays only starting February 1. Appointments only.
  • Oelwein
    • First Baptist Church, 31 1st Ave NE: Tuesdays only starting February 6. Appointments only.

The tax service will not operate on days schools cancel due to inclement weather. The tax service will operate as usual if schools have a late start. In case of cancellation, it is the clients' responsibility to reschedule an appointment.

This AARP Tax Program is coordinated locally by RSVP in cooperation with national sponsors, AARP and IRS. RSVP is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service and sponsored locally by Covenant Medical Center. Tax preparation services are provided by IRS certified volunteers.
