Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - Iowa (Wheaton Iowa) is pleased to welcome Matthew Sojka, MD, MMM, CPE as Vice President of Medical Affairs. In this role, Dr. Sojka will help all staff and physicians provide high-quality, high-safety care in all settings, and ensure patients have the opportunity to obtain care in the right setting at the right time. Dr. Sojka will also work to reduce cost and avoid preventable admissions, and will provide resources to engage staff and providers to allow them to meet their goals.

"The leadership position as Vice President of Medical Affairs for Wheaton Iowa is an exciting growth opportunity for me," said Dr. Sojka. "I have enjoyed more than 30 years taking care of patients in a variety of roles as a family physician. Now as a physician in a leadership role, I want to help the Wheaton Iowa family provide the exceptional care we would want our family and friends to receive."

Following medical school at the University of Iowa, Dr. Sojka (pronounced SAY'-koh, like a Seiko watch) completed his residency in Family Practice at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines. Dr. Sojka's wife also works in the health care field, most recently as director of home care and hospice for Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Illinois. The couple is looking forward to their return to Iowa. "I'm an Iowan except for the last three years, so I'm excited to return to the state," he said. "The Cedar Valley has a lot to offer culturally and professionally."

"Dr. Sojka has a vast array of experiences and qualifications, coupled with his passion and energy, which align with the mission and goals of our health system," said Jack Dusenbery, president and CEO of Wheaton Iowa. "We are looking forward to adding him to our leadership team."
