Waterloo Medical Center is a 366-bed, full-service, multi-specialty hospital providing acute, sub-acute and outpatient health care.
A full complement of facilities and services are available to support the community’s health care needs, including intensive care, operating and recovery rooms for both inpatient and ambulatory surgery, diagnostic radiology services such as X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging, CT scanning, mammography, laboratory, respiratory therapy, electrophysiology and pharmacy.
Complete Emergency Services
In addition Covenant provides complete emergency services. Emergency transport through Aircare helicopter service is provided through association with the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
Comprehensive Inpatient Medical Rehabilitation Program
Covenant also offers a comprehensive inpatient medical rehabilitation program. In addition to specialized rehabilitation nursing, needed inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation therapies are offered including neuropsychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language pathology, therapeutic recreation, cancer rehabilitation and various support services such as family counseling and nutritional care.
Level II Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
The area’s only Level II Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is provided by Waterloo Medical Center as well. As an extension of the Level II nursery, Covenant sponsors a high-risk obstetrics clinic that provides physician, nursing, nutrition, counseling and other support services needed to help ensure healthy mothers and babies.
Waterloo Cancer Center
Waterloo Cancer Center is the only comprehensive, accredited and multidisciplinary cancer treatment center in the area exemplifying our commitment to fighting cancer. Cancer patients will find outpatient chemotherapy and radiation treatment services, along with a full range of support services including the only cancer rehabilitation and wellness program in the Midwest, nutritional support, family counseling and free transportation services.
Comprehensive Behavioral Health Program
Another service uniquely provided by Waterloo Medical Center is its comprehensive behavioral health program. Psychiatric care for persons with mental illness is offered on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Specialized nursing, counseling, and other support services are provided as needed. Inpatient and outpatient nursing and counseling are also provided for persons experiencing issues with chemical dependency.

An organization providing continued nursing, therapy, or other support services in a patient’s home. Home Health conducts approximately 36,000 visits per year.
We have contracts with approximately 1,000 area businesses throughout Northeast Iowa to provide needed health care services such as injury treatment, drug and alcohol testing, and health education and disease prevention information for their employees.
Numerous general health education opportunities and screenings offered to the community at large (wellness information; exercise/fitness classes; massage therapy; depression, anxiety, skin cancer, prostate cancer, and blood cholesterol screenings; support groups; safety and prevention events.
Family members and friends are encouraged to visit. It is recommended that visits are between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. in order to allow all patients the quiet rest necessary for a speedy recovery.
Visits may be limited due to the patient’s condition and doctor’s recommendations. Should special circumstances arise, feel free to ask your nurse or caregiver if alternate visiting hours may be arranged. To provide exceptional and compassionate health care to our patients, visitation will be restricted if visitors have an obvious illness or communicable disease. Visitors should always respect the patient’s wishes while maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and security to others. Patients may decide who can and cannot visit. Please discuss any concerns with the patient’s caregiver.
Visitation to the Family Birth Center at Waterloo Medical Center is based on the patient’s wishes. Immediate family, grandparents, and children are welcome unless the condition of the mother or newborn requires limitation.
The Intensive Care Unit at Waterloo Medical Center has no limit to the visiting hours. However, friends and family may be asked to step out when nursing care or testing needs to be performed.
Children are permitted to visit a friend or loved one. It is the responsibility of the family member to supervise their children at all times. Any child with a communicable disease or obvious illness will be restricted from patient contact and waiting areas.
