Covenant Midwives & Women's Health Center

Care You Can Trust
Our clinic opened in 1990. It is a faith-based, non-profit clinic providing comprehensive services for the unique health care needs of women of all ages: those entering adolescence, embracing motherhood, maintaining wellness or making life transitions. Unlimited support and health care education is provided by Board Certified Nurse Midwives, a women's health nurse practitioner, registered nurses, dieticians, social workers and other clinic staff members.

Our clinic is staffed exclusively by women. We also have the privilege of working closely with a practice of OB/GYN physicians, Partners in Obstetrics and Gynecology. When a woman has a health care need outside our midwives’ scope of practice or expertise, our midwives will consult or refer care accordingly. Women needing inpatient or outpatient hospital based services will receive excellent family-centered care in the safest, most nurturing environment possible at Covenant Medical Center.

Midwifery Care
Our Board Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) are registered nurses with advanced practice training. They have a master’s degree in midwifery and are board certified to offer expert and personalized care for normal pregnancy, childbirth, and gynecology. Our midwives are skilled professionals in supporting women to maintain a healthy pregnancy and birth as well as offering individualized health care, education and counseling to women throughout their life cycle.

Evening Hours
Lindsey Northness, WHNP-BC, BSN, provides evening hours each Wednesday until 7:00 p.m. She offers well-woman exams and prenatal check-ups for established patients.

*CenteringPregnancy®  Model of Health Care

CenteringPregnancy® is a group model of health care that includes a regular, individual health check-up, with additional time for learning and sharing in a group setting. It allows pregnant women on the same pregnancy timeline to gather and experience their pregnancy together.

Each group gathering lasts about 2 hours, with a Covenant Prenatal & Women’s Health Clinic provider guiding the session. Partners and support people are welcome to accompany participants to each session.

There are several benefits to participating in a CenteringPregnancy group. Women that complete the sessions are less likely to have a preterm baby, they feel more confident to make healthy decisions for themselves and their family, and have higher breastfeeding rates – which is healthier for both mom and baby.

*Well Woman Exams
As a clinic staffed by all women, we understand your yearly exam can sometimes be an appointment that doesn’t make your calendar. We want you to be healthy, and invite you to come in for a Well Woman Exam.

At your exam we will:

• Review your health history
• Give you a physical exam, including a breast exam
• Look at your pelvic area for signs of illness in the ‘woman-only’ organs of your body
• Provide STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) testing

Financial Resources
Private insurance such as United Healthcare, Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Deere Premier, and many others will be accepted, as well as Medicare, Iowa Health & Wellness plans, Medipass, and all Medicaid products. Self-pay discounts are available to patients with no insurance, and Community Care may be an option for those who qualify. Our clinic social workers and hospital patient financial advocates are here to assist with your financial concerns.

Hereditary Cancer Quiz

Did you know that up to 10% of cancer patients have an inherited gene mutation? [1] Fortunately, knowing your cancer family history may help a provider to prevent cancer or detect it at an earlier stage. Women with certain genetic mutations have:

  • up to 44% lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer[2]
  • up to 87% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer[2]

By taking this quick quiz, you can find out whether you may be at risk for a hereditary cancer. It only takes 30 seconds - knowing your hereditary cancer risk could save your life!

Your results will be confidentially sent to Covenant Midwives & Women's Health Center. If your results indicate that you may have an increased risk for certain cancers, we will contact you to schedule an appointment. During the appointment we will discuss your family history in more depth and discuss whether hereditary cancer testing is the right next step for you and your health.
